*fingers crossed*

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Debuting Monday, August 18th, 2008 will be the premiere of my first ever web comic, “Heavenly”.  It took me a little longer to get it up and running, having to install and get familiar with WordPress and ComicPress and all.

Heavenly will be updated three times a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, hopefully (*fingers crossed*).  I’m currently a month ahead on strips, and hope to always maintain that buffer.

I hope you all like Heavenly, I know I do.

Crap

Monday, August 18th, 2008

The purpose of title-ing (titling?) my first post *fingers crossed* was because I had an inkling that I would f*ck things up and not debut on the date I had set for myself to debut ‘Heavenly’.

Well, I fixed the problem, I hope… I think.

‘Heavenly’ will debut Wednesday, August 20th, 2008.  I hope… I think.

OMG

it actually worked…

yup, I know I made a mistake

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

So, I was inking Heavenly #21 tonight and I didn’t notice at the time but I made a mistake in panel 3.  I thought about redrawing the strip from scratch, but decided against it, mainly because it’s an honest flaw and I kind of like flaws in works (or I’m just lazy).  But anyway, there’s a mistake in panel 3 of strip 21.

Also, there’s a mistake in panel 3 of Heavenly #10, which I didn’t even notice until I had already uploaded it.

Again, while I’m not going to redraw these strips, I did think about fixing the mistakes in Photoshop, but nixed that idea because I want the online versions of these strips to match the original drawings.

guess who just uploaded 13 new strips…

things are going to be looking kind of funky…

things are going to be looking kind of funky as I am going to be playing ‘trial and error’ as I’m messing around with the CSS to get the site have its own style.

W. — Awesome Trailer

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I’ve just watched, at least 5 times today, one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen.

I’m not a fan of Oliver Stone — I’ve seen maybe half of ‘Natural Born Killers’ and found it, despite all of its violence, too cartoony for my taste (and this coming from an amateur web-cartoonist), and I had absolutely no interest in seeing W, his film about George W. Bush, as I’m not a fan of President Bush, but the trailer to Stone’s new movie about the life of George W. Bush is frakking amazing.

Check it out here, you won’t be disappointed, and if you are disappointed, you probably shouldn’t be reading this.

‘Ghost Town’

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

I just saw the movie ‘Ghost Town’ today and was thoroughly surprised by how much I liked it.  I went to go see it primarily because of Ricky Gervais but was impressed by the entire movie.  Before this film, I really didn’t care one way or another about David Koepp, primarily a highly paid screenwriter and script doctor who co-wrote and directed this film, but now I have a much higher appreciation for him.

The movie is a solid comedy with all the right dramatic parts.  It’s a movie dealing with ghosts, but it doesn’t go the cliche route of most ghost movies.

It’s a ‘classic’ movie in that everything works.  I put it on par with ‘Groundhog Day’ and ‘Bowfinger’, two other solid comedies.  And the last two lines of dialogue in the movie work so so well — heartbreaking and fulfilling at the same time.

I really, really enjoyed this movie.

PRESS!!!

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Wow, ‘Heavenly’ actually got some press.

In my efforts to be on top of all things ‘Heavenly’, I came across a glowing review for my comic from one Jeffrey Littleton on his LiveJournal blog entry here.  He writes in his second paragraph, “Nic just launched a web comic (www.heavenlycomix.com, I recommend everyone check it out, it’s pretty funny)”.  Glad you liked it Mr. Littleton!

However, he does have some criticism concerning my writing skills and methods.  In his entry, Mr. Littleton makes evident that he feels that a writer need not be concerned about questions addressing tone or mission statements or originality in one’s work.  I must politely disagree because I feel that if a writer is not concerned about tone, mission statements, or originality then he is no writer at all. I could be wrong about this, and I normally am, but hey, we can’t all be perfect, right?

So we have our first review, and it’s positive, so I’m happy.

‘Heavenly’ readers, you guys should check out his blog ‘Just Another LJ‘ (which is really a great, post modern title for a Live Journal blog), it updates on average twice a year, so try not to miss out on all of the great content there.

And for those people coming to this site from Mr. Littleton’s Live Journal, I welcome all four of you with open arms (I just hope my web hosting provider can handle the increased bandwidth (*fingers crossed*)).
