I was a big fan of Brian Wood’s and Garry Brown’s “The Massive”, about a post-apocalyptic world where Earth’s eco-system is absolutely fucked, and I’m glad to see Wood and Brown return to that world, pre-apocalypse, in a prequel mini-series “The Massive: Ninth Wave”. Even better, the mini-series is composed of done-in-ones, a story artform that I love very much but which I feel is a dying breed in the current writing-for-the-trade comic landscape.

The first two issues that I’ve read so far have been great, well paced stories with effective art. The first issue kinda feels a bit like a corporate espionage thriller while the second feels like a pacifist Rambo “First Blood” story. To round the issues out are gorgeous covers by original series cover artist John Paul Leon.
